update from the land of the midnite sun
So, I started job hunting Tuesday the 18th, and saw in the paper a place that sounded fun - Great Alaskan Holidays. They had lots of positions available - customer service, housekeeping, washer, van driver, etc. I went in and filled out the application on Wednesday, and they began some preliminary interviews right then. I passed the first two interviews and then they sent me in for the real interview - and I thought I was just dropping off an application/resume! :D The interview seemed to go great, and she told me they needed to check references and they would get back to me within 3-5 days. Thursday I didn't do any applications/resumes, but spent the day playing with my niece. Thursday afternoon on my way to Foothills storage for more training I got a call - it was Elaine from Great Alaskan Holidays (GAH) wanting to know if I could start in the morning! I was so shocked and excited, but had already committed to Foothills for the weekend. I asked if the offer still stood if I couldn't start until Monday and she said of course. I spoke with Foothills about working on my days off instead of weekends (GAH requires working every weekend), and they agreed until they could find someone for the weekends. So I started work at GAH Monday the 24th! It's been a week and I am loving it!
I'm a
customer service rep, so I write the contracts for the customers, walk them through the orientation, make sure the RV's are ready to go and then check them in when they return. It is a family owned business and I really like their business practices. Our clients are from all over the country and the world. I worked with a client the other day from Conyers, Georgia and they filled me in on the chlorine explosion that morning. Scary – but it was great to hear news from my other home. (hint, hint – I'm going crazy missing news from Georgia – someone please call me or email me from there! Even if you share what you had for
dinner!)
Ok - now for the fun part...God's amazing blessings. I was praying for a job that payed at least $10 an hour (they do), an opportunity for overtime (I worked 58 hours last week at GAH), and an opportunity for tips or extra money (GAH has an awesome bonus and commission program). I also wanted something that was active so I can continue to get my body in shape and get rid of this fat - and GAH is lots of activity and I go up and down a flight of stairs about 15-20 times a day - sometimes more! I'm outside a lot checking in the RV's, or guiding traffic, etc. It's been hard to stand on
my feet for 10 hours a day, but I'm getting used to it.
What a switch from my job hunting experience in Georgia! I truly believe that God's timing is perfect, but we cannot understand His timing because we can't see the whole picture. I am learning more and more to simply trust that He knows best and will take care of me - whether I "deserve" it or not! He is always faithful, even when I am not.
My time with my friends and family has been precious. I was able to go to my small group last Thursday and we laughed so hard I was crying! That is pretty much a regular occurrence with this group of women and I sure have missed their sweet fellowship! I spent the whole day with my niece Sunday and treasured every moment! We shopped for hours (she's 28 months - I've taught her well - she loves to shop with Aunty)! I'm house/dog sitting right now, but then I'll be back at mom and dad's. It's been fun to be with them in the evenings - I'm working during the days.
Well, friends, I need to close and head to bed - I'm up by 5:30 and to work at 7, so I'm heading to be early - before the sun goes down! :D (heehee!
That's an Alaska joke - sun sets really late...get it?) Blessings to you all, and I am anxiously waiting to hear news from my other home in Atlanta! :D Tell me what's going on in your lives! Blessings!
Debbi :D
